The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 3300 mAh battery and you will not have to worry about any kind of explosion, unlike its predecessor. Samsung has decided to be strict in terms of battery for the mobile phones that were released this year. Compared to other Android mobile phones, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is known to have a decent battery life.

Performance:

Apple has introduced some new features and applications that will take some time to get used to it. Some of the new changes include when you swipe up on the screen instead of taking you to the Control Center, it operates as the home button. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has introduced the Touchwiz UI, making the phone a lot more fun to touch and use. This new interface is amazing and it operates on Android Nougat. On the Geekbench tests, the mobile phone has scored about 2000 on a single core and around 6500 on multicore.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also runs on Android Nougat 7.0 and can be updated to Android Oreo 8.0 in early 2018. It has amazing applications such as App Pairing that enables you to use two apps at one time.

While both phones are popular in the budget smartphone category, they have some large differences between them. The most prominent and influencing differences are discussed here.

Design

In terms of outlook, the two phones are quite similar, which is expected seeing that the Moto E4 Plus is simply an upgraded version of the Moto E4. Both phones have sleek metal bodies with smooth rounded edges, but if you want the charisma of a Galaxy S8 or an iPhone 8, you are looking at the wrong place and that is only fair for the price you would be paying. To be brutally honest, neither phone has any distinctive feature that makes them stand out from the million other Android budget phones in the market. It is not very exciting or innovative, but it can get the job done with the winning formula that raised Moto to the top of the budget smartphone market.

One noticeable difference between the two bodies is that the Moto E4 has a textured back surface, making it far easier for one hand grip along with its smaller size working in favor of the grip as well. The Moto E4 Plus has a smooth back, to compare, and lacks that extra advantage offered by its smaller counterpart. The large circular camera on the back has been a signature design aspect of the recent Moto series, and these two phones do not offer any exceptions.

The Moto E4

Weighing 151gm, the Moto E4 is 144.5mm x 72mm x 9.3mm in measurements and at 198gm; Moto E4 Plus is a slightly larger 155mm x 77mm x 9.55mm. The latter variation is heavier and larger mainly due to its significantly larger battery. Both phones are fairly sturdy in the hand. The biggest design feature is probably the ‘Moto One Key Navigation’, which adds a home button that has an inbuilt fingerprint scanner for security, and navigation through the phone is carried out by gestures over this home button that doubles as a navigation deck, which is said to be more convenient with one hand operation. While it makes handling easier from some aspects, it might also be difficult for some people to use, so it is a bold and slightly risky move on the developer’s part.

Display

The Moto E4 Plus is, obviously, larger than the Moto E4 and as a result, the display reflects their difference in size as well. While the Moto E4 has a screen size of 5 inches, the Moto E4 Plus boasts some extra screen space with a 5.5-inch display. However, both phones have the same 720 x 1280 pixels’ resolution and compressed on the shorter screen, the Moto E4 gives a sharper and crisper display compared to its larger variation. To explain it in numbers, Moto E4 has approximately 294 PPI (pixels per inch) as opposed to the 267 PPI on the Moto E4 Plus. On the other hand, the larger display gives you the obvious advantages of being convenient for browsing, reading, games or watching videos and movies.The 720p resolution is pretty satisfactory in itself, but if you are switching from a 1080p display phone, you will find it a bit disappointing.

The Moto E4 plus

Equipped with the sufficiently powerful Mali T-720 GPU, both have IPS color displays with 16M colors to give you fresh and vibrant images and videos. Multitouch feature are available on both phones, allowing you to play the many games that require this feature, among other things.

Performance

Both the Moto E4 and the Moto E4 Plus has an Operating System (OS) of Android v7.1.1 (Nougat). The chip run in both phones is the Snapdragon 427 which, while certainly up to its job, can no longer be branded as recent. Both employ a 1.3 GHz, Quad Core, MediaTek MT6737 Processor that has run without glitches during the testing period. Neither of the phones are particularly fast, compared to the elite smartphones, and it will show signs of fatigue when you are multitasking heavily, but it gives a respectable performance that does justice to its price. The RAM in the Moto E4 is an efficient 2 GB, while the Moto E4 Plus has the advantage with 3 GB of RAM beside its name. Internal memory of the Moto E4 Plus is a comfortable 32 GB while Moto E4, with an internal memory of 16 GB might need an external microSD card to run heavy apps. Both phones support external memory extension up to 128 GB.

Both phones support dual SIM cards, both in the nano form, and supports connectivity in the forms of GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G, VoLTE andWiFi. Data transfer is conveniently simple with Bluetooth and micro USB, which has been preferred over USB-C simply because of the amount of popularity micro USB is still enjoying. The Moto E4 has the NFC feature available, but the Moto E4 Plus does not. Most other common features you can expect on a budget smartphone is present in both phones.

The home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor can be tricky to use. Pressing the home button for too long activates Google Assistant, and if you simply hold your finger over the sensor for too long, the phone will be locked. The Moto E4 has an 8 MP back camera with autofocus, panorama and geo-tagging features available, while Moto E4 Plus has an impressive 13 MP back camera with touch to focus and smile detection features added to the ones already present in the Moto E4. When the autofocus works well, the Moto E4 Plus’s camera is capable of delivering excellent photos considering the price range, and it also has a manual setting for professionals and enthusiasts who like to tweak the ISO and similar settings. However, the autofocus is another aspect of the phone that has not been a success. It will deliver in a good lighting, but otherwise, you would need to really work on the camera to capture a perfectly focused picture.

The price of the phones is quite variable across the globe, but one thing is constant: it’s an affordable and efficient smartphone that will give you the best value for the price, some users would even go as far as to rate it the ‘Perfect Budget Smartphone’.

The general price range of Moto E4 is below $150 and the range for Moto E4 Plus is below $200, with the 16 GB Moto E4 Plus costing below $180. Depending on your location, the price may be lower, or a little above the amounts stated above.

As for the final verdict, the Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus are both proven smartphones that will perform when you need them to, providing surprisingly good specification and performances for a tight budget. Although these phones will not be as aesthetically pleasing as it could be, being quite sturdy and plain, they are powerful workhouses that can really give you the best service you can hope for within a very affordable price range.

The Moto G5

Since its inception, the Moto G series has brought to us an excellent selection of mobile phones with top-of-the-line features. In this article, we pit their three latest releases, the Moto G5 Plus, the Moto G5 and the Moto G4 Plus against each other and find out which one’s your money’s worth!

Display:

The Moto G5 Plus consists of a 5.2-inch display and has a resolution of 1080p. It has precise hues and contrast and there is a lot of detail which is really good when compared to other phones in its price range. There are no issues with visibility and the mobile phone also consists of Full High Definition resolution which looks pretty dandy. The IPS display is amazing and its multimedia is quite dynamic.

You will need to pop off the back cover to place your sim card and microSD card in their respective slots. While the front camera is of only 5 MP with an aperture of f/2.2, it has phase detection focus and LED flash which perform pretty great. Other features include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, and panorama. The camera is known to take great shots at daylight with good contrast. The Moto G5 Plus records video in 1080p at 30fps.

The Moto G4 plus consists of a 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 5 MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture. The front and rear camera of the mobile phone takes pictures of great quality. The primary camera consists of phase detection and laser autofocus feature. Along with that, it is also known to have dual-LED dual-tone flash. The color grading of the pictures is amazing with accurate saturation and contrast. The mobile phone records video in 1080p at 30fps.

Battery:

The Moto G5 Plus comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery that provides pretty good battery life. Though the battery life most depends on how many hours you spend browsing the internet on your mobile phone or watch a video in Full High Definition. At the end of the day; however, you may need to charge the mobile phone.

On the other hand, the Moto G5 comes with a removable Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery, which to be fair, is not much and you will need to charge the mobile phone every day. If the use is moderate, it lasts considerably longer, with 100% charge, if you use your mobile phone only for taking calls and texting, checking or sending emails, you will observe that at the end of the day, the charge has decreased to only 60%. If you browse the internet and watch a few videos however, the charge tends to go down pretty quickly.

Similar to Moto G5 Plus, the Moto G4 Plus comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. While it may seem that it has a great battery life, what you need to consider that it needs to power a 5.5-inch mobile phone. A larger consumes a lot more power so with 100% charge, if you watch a Full High Definition video for an hour, the charge will decrease to only up to 70% – 65%.

Performance:

The Moto G5 Plus comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and has two versions – one of the versions consist of 2 GB of RAM up to 32 GB of internal storage and the other version consists of 4 GB of RAM with up to 64 GB of internal storage space. The mobile phone also consists of an Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex A53 and a GPU that is Adreno 506. While testing the mobile phone on the benchmarking software known as Geekbench 4.0, the Moto G5 Plus has scored 2,500 on multi-core.

The Moto G5 Plus consists of a Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 processor and similar to Moto G5, it comes with two versions: one version consists of 2 GB of RAM up to 16 GB of internal storage and the other consists of 3 GB of RAM with up to 32 GB of internal storage space. The mobile phone consists of Octa-core 1.4 GHz with Cortex A53 and GPU of Adreno 505.

Surprisingly, the Moto G4 Plus comes in three versions. With a Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617 processor, the one version of the mobile phone of 2 GB of RAM up to 16 GB of internal storage, the second version consists of 3 GB of RAM with up to 32 GB of internal storage space and the third one consists of 4 GB of RAM up to 64 GB of internal storage. Over the years, Motorola has introduced some of the amazing smartphones in the Motorola Z series with top design, mind-blowing camera features, stunning applications and much more. So much so that the Z Series is constantly becoming a serious contender to other mid and mid to high range phones. In this article, we will be reviewing the Moto Z Play, the Motorola Moto Z and the Moto Z2 Force edition. We will be pitting them against one another in terms of aspects such as Display, Design, Camera, Performance, etc and see how they pan out.

Display:

The Moto Z Play consists of a 5.5-inch display that has Super AMOLED Technology. With an indistinguishable size from the Moto Z series, the phone is known to have great color contrast and pixel quality. The Moto Z Play has a 1080p Full High Definition display and along with that, it has 403 pixels per inch. One of the best thing about the display is that, if you change the resolution of the screen, the display will still maintain the Motorola's Active Display. It consists of hand wave technology where if you wave your palm in front of the screen, it will display the date, time and notifications.

The Moto Z Play

The Motorola Moto Z consists of a Quad High Definition screen along with an incredible AMOLED display. The best thing about the display of the Motorola Moto Z apart from its extravagance is its performance. Just like Moto Z Play, the mobile phone consists of Moto Active Display that consists of IR sensor and a transmitter that enables to sense hand motions. Just like the other phones in the Moto Z series, the Moto Z Play has a flat design but it feels thicker when hand-held. The phone measures 156.4 x 76.4 x 6.99 mm and has a weight of 165g. One of the most incredible features of the Moto Z Play is the fingerprint sensor in front of the screen- it’s fast and well-receptive; however, we have heard some complaints about the sensor not working properly with prolonged use, we had no such problems. While the Moto Z Play is not waterproof, it does come with a water-repellent with nano integument such that the mobile phone can withstand few spills, light rain but if it stays below 2 feet of water for more than 20 to 30 minutes, there is no guarantee that it will survive.

The Motorola Moto Z series have truly taken itself to the next level by introducing the world's thinnest mobile phone. The Motorola Moto Z measures 153.3 x 75.3 x 5.19mm and has a weight of only 139 g. This ultra-thin phone consists of a USB type C port in its base. The phone comes with a 3.5mm jack to USB-C cable to use your headphones or you can just use regular old Bluetooth headsets with this. The Motorola Moto Z has a small fingerprint sensor at the front of the screen near the logo of the Motorola. One of the best features of the sensor is that it wakes and even puts the mobile phone to sleep.

While the Moto Z2 Force Edition may not be as slim as the Motorola Moto Z , it is still considered as one of the slimmest mobile phones of Motorola with a width of 0.24 inches and weighing about 145 g only. The mobile phone is made of 7000 series aluminum that provides extreme toughness and increases its durability. With fine edges, the Moto Z2 Force Edition comes with a fingerprint reader which provides fast response to finger touch.

Camera:

The Moto Z Play consists of a 16 MP rear camera along with an f/ 2.0 aperture, and a 13 MP front camera with an f/ 1.8 aperture. The Moto Z Play has an autofocus feature with laser technology. Along with that comes face detection autofocus feature. However, the Moto Z Play camera have a few lacking’s as well, for example, it consists of poor quality low-light abilities and it does not have OIS or optical image stabilization feature. While the shots taken in low light are not incredible, it does take quite decent shots in daylight with vibrant colors and contrast.

Motorola Moto Z consists of a 13 MP primary camera with 1.12um pixels and has an aperture of f/1.8. While the front camera is of only 5 MP with an aperture of f/2.2 and 1.4um pixels. The primary or rear camera consists of OIS or optical image stabilization feature that enables you to take decent quality shots and also consists of a laser autofocus feature. The camera takes good shots at daylight with good hue and contrast. The camera has a professional mode that enables you to fine tune, observe the white balance aperture and much more.

The Moto Z2 Force Edition comes with the latest OEM technology and consists of 12-megapixel cameras both front and back with f/2.0 aperture. Both the front and rear camera is known to take great quality pictures and the monochrome sensor enables you to take genuine high contrast photographs. The monochrome sensor allows you to take amazing depth-effect shots as well. The color grading of the pictures is amazing with accurate saturation and contrast. The camera is known to handle daytime shots really well but it seems to struggle a tad bit in low light photography.

Battery:

The Moto Z Play consists of a 3,510 mAh battery. The mobile phone lasts more than two days with moderate use which, as you know, is a major deal among the high- end smartphones currently available in the market. You will be completely awed by the day and a half battery life after heavy use. The mobile phone is also known for quick charging abilities. If you watch a video for more than an hour in full brightness with a full charge, you will only be consuming 25 per cent of your battery life. Along with a great battery size, the mobile phone survives more than 12 hours with a 1080p screen resolution.

The Moto Z has a 2,600 mAh sized battery due to its slim size which is fairly low in today’s standards. With moderate usage, you will be required to charge the phone everyday which can become a hassle at times. Also, if you watch a movie or video in full brightness for more than an hour, you will be consuming about 40-50% of your charge.

Surprisingly, the Moto Z2 Force Edition comes with a 2730 mAh battery. At first, you may think that it will not provide the longevity similar to Moto X4 and Moto X Play. Well, although the G6 offers worthy competition, I think we all know that the clear winner here is the V30, except for the fact that the G6 Is more budget friendly, the V30 almost certainly supersedes it in all the other aspects. 

Sony Xperia Z5

Sony seems to be winning over the mobile phone industry with its amazing designs and quality Xperia mobile phones. Sony has brought to you, known as the first 4K resolution mobile phone – Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, with elegant and a new fingerprint sensor – Sony Xperia Z5 and with amazing rear and front cameras – Sony Xperia X.

Display:

Sony is known to use a lot of jargons when describing the amazing technology of Sony Xperia such as the Triluminous and Bravia Mobile Engine screen technology. Well, whatever the name is, we can conclude that Sony has done right with Sony Xperia Z5 with its incredible display screen. It is splendid, dynamic and illustrates the colors and hues accurately. The viewing angles of the mobile phone are also wide and surprisingly it can be utilized easily in the bright light with no glaring issues. On the other hand, The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is in the spotlight for its 4K-resolution screen. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium comprises of a 5.5-inch display and the 4K resolution do not imply that all pixels are enraptured at the same time. However, point to note here is that the 4K resolution screen comes up only when you need to see the photos or videos, other than that, the display screen just works in Full High Definition Resolution. This fact was a real bubble buster to the people who got hyped over the 4K screen. The edges on the Z5 Premium are made of aluminum which provides a glossy feel. Sony has also incorporated augmented corners which are intended to keep the mobile phone from breaking if it falls or slips from your hand on the ground.

Sony has been benevolent while designing the Sony Xperia X where the glass bends to the sides in order to provide a smooth and elegant appearance. The Sony Xperia X comprises of an orthogonal design. While it is not as a good looking phone as Sony Xperia Z5, it does have its own allure. The incredible matte glass provides an amazing feeling when you hold it for the first time. The 5-inch phone fits nicely in your hand.

Camera:

Sony Xperia Z5 comprises of a 23-megapixel rear camera and 5.1-megapixel front camera. Despite the fact that the camera sensor now has a higher pixel resolution, the most energizing component of the new camera is the autofocus feature. There have been some significant changes here and there. Shots taken in the sunlight are simply the best. The colors are striking and the dynamic range is truly on point. The camera truly takes photos of extraordinary quality.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium incorporates the IMX300 sensor and like the Z5, it consists of a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 5.1 megapixel front camera. The mobile phone has various Sony applications which include PlayStation, TrackID, and Xperia Lounge. Updating the mobile phones enables to add various system stabilization and along with that it also enables to improve the battery life.

Unlike Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, there is nothing extraordinary about the interface of Sony Xperia X. It has a basic Android stock interface. One of the best features of Sony Xperia X is that you can play PlayStation 4 Remote Play if you hook the mobile phone with a PS4 controller.

Price:

The Sony Xperia X is available in UK for £450 and for $549.99 in the US. The Sony Xperia Z5 is available at $446 in the US markets and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is available at $778. The verdict generally is that if your budget is in the 500 range, you may think of going for the Z5 rather than the X and if your budget is higher, you can just go for the Z5 premium. 

If you are one of those people who follow the cell phone industry as intently as we do, you will know about the few bumps Sony may have had over the past few years. The company stuck to its tradition of releasing a Z Phone every eight months or so; however, when they arrived at their fifth version back in 2015, they knew that there weren’t much that they can do with their Z phones that come after that. It seems that the “Best of Sony” had a limit attached to it. Sony turned around; however, at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Sony showed promises after unveiling their new Xperia X Phone with its Performance counterpart. While the first glance was a letdown for most people since it looks too much like its predecessors; there were optimistic faces in the crowd as Sony said they were breaking ties with the past.

Getting our hands on the phone, we would say that there are marked improvements compared to its predecessors which makes the phone seem all good, but at US$699, we are just not sure if the price of the phone is justified. So let’s find out more about the phone and at the end of it all, we will let you be the judge!

Design:

Well, first things first, let’s talk about how the phone feels when held and looks. The slightly curved edges of the glass front catch the eye primarily and the vibe given off is a very elegant one. The 1080p resolution given off by the 5-inch display also looks pretty vibrant with a higher color contrast, but if you compare it to the top-tier phones in the market today, the display looks pretty low resolution to be honest which is puzzling because, at that price, you would expect your display to live up to the standards set by high-end phones. The best thing about the design; however, is the brushed metal chassis which fits perfectly in your hand and is easy to slide into your pocket.

Other than that, the design touches are pretty subtle which minimalists might love. In our rose gold preview unit, overall the phone looked pretty great! When it comes to smartphone design nowadays, you have to talk about the port placement and layout as well. Well, the good news here as the ports were placed very thoughtfully and we had no problems using any of them. The button placement was thoughtful as well. The home button, the dedicated Camera button, and Power buttons are all placed nicely; however, the volume rocker may be problematic for a few people.

The phone has a dustproof and waterproof rating of IP68 which means that the phone will be fine if dropped up to a meter underwater for up to 30 minutes. The phone is also slightly smaller than most of its competitors on the market, measuring in 144x70x8.7mm, the phone is quite small but weighing around 165 gram, it has also been said to be much heavier than most of its competitors.

The Hardware

Sony actively claims that the specification of the Xperia X Performance is what differentiates it from the rest of the phones in the market. Well, the phone is built around a processor of a quad-core Snapdragon 820 which currently holds the top rank for being Qualcomm’s fastest ever chip and mind you, this is the same processor featured in the Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and HTC 10- the 3GB RAM complements the chipset brilliantly and combines to give you a seamless operating experience which to be honest is pretty darn great! The phone runs Android 6 Marshmallow and the best thing about it is that the phone’s spec is actually a better match than the software allowing it to run apps and run low demanding games with minimal effort. We actually found out that even the much slower Snapdragon 650 chipset is capable of sustaining Android 6.0 on similar display features.

The Xperia series had a trademark complaint associated with each and every one of its models, while apps and games always seem to work well, the Camera app always lags and sometimes the whole experience of taking pictures lags as well. The Xperia X Performance has tackled that problem on a larger scale. When you compare it to its predecessor, the X, the X Performance is much faster.

Battery Life:

The phone is fitted with a 2700mAh battery and after an overnight charge, it pretty much boils down to what you want to be doing on the phone. If you are using it heavily, i.e. watching books, listening to music, video calling, etc. You might need to charge the phone every 6 hours, but if talking and texting is all that you do on your phone, you might even have 30% juice left on your phone and still last a day, with ease!

The Camera

With every phone by Sony, you need to reserve a large section to write about the Cameras and this phone is no different. The 23MP rear camera has a much enhanced quality compared to the Xperia X. The Exmor RS is of high quality but when we were trying to take low light snaps, we had a lot of problems. The lack of optical image stabilization causes the phone to raise the light sensitivity in low light; however, the light sensitivity is often raised too much, consequently, the camera has a very difficult time focusing subjects and the photos that come out become blurred. However, other than the problem encountered under low lights, the camera is pretty much fine, in fact, it’s actually great if you are trying to take shots in the day.

Low-Light Shots

Keeping up with the competition in producing great portrait photos, Sony has added the relatively intelligent Superior Auto mode that allows you to take great portraits. But as mentioned above, when we brought the phone inside the house, we realized that it cant even capture the slowest of motions. The front camera is a 13MP front facing camera which is actually one of the best sensors we have tried this year, it’s even fitted with the wide f2.0 lens which allows you to take large group selfies, do quick focus and enables it with the smile shutter feature, which is actually pretty cool.

But here’s the real question that we need to ask? Is it the best $500+ Android phone camera out there? Sadly, no! Not even close, there are much better competitors out there in the market.
